Presidential Declaration on the Recognition of Sovereign States

Issued by: The President's Office, Republic of Labradoria  ·  Date: 3 April 2026

The President of the Republic of Labradoria, Freddie Sparrow, acting in his capacity as Head of State and Head of Government of the Republic of Labradoria, and pursuant to the authority vested in him by the Constitution of the Republic of Labradoria as ratified on the 1st day of April 2026, hereby issues the following formal and binding declaration for the attention of all foreign governments, heads of state, diplomatic missions, international bodies, intergovernmental organisations, and all other parties to whom this declaration may be of interest or relevance.

This declaration is issued in the name and on behalf of the sovereign people and institutions of the Republic of Labradoria and constitutes an official act of the executive authority of the Republic. It shall be interpreted in good faith and in accordance with the principles of international customary law, the norms of sovereign equality, and the spirit of peaceful international coexistence.

I. Preamble & Statement of Purpose

The Republic of Labradoria, having been formally constituted as a sovereign nation on 1 April 2026, and having established its Constitution, its Cabinet of Ministers, its Territorial Register, and all foundational organs of government, now takes the formal step of engaging with the family of nations through this Presidential Declaration. The Republic recognises that no nation, however small, exists in isolation from the international community, and that the peaceful and lawful conduct of relations between states is a cornerstone of civilised international order.

It is the express policy of this Republic to conduct its external affairs with the utmost honesty, transparency, and respect for the sovereignty and dignity of all other nations. The Republic does not seek conflict, advantage, or dominion over others; it seeks only peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and, where possible, constructive diplomatic engagement.

II. Recognition of United Nations Member States

The Republic of Labradoria hereby formally, officially, unconditionally, and without reservation recognises all current member states of the United Nations as sovereign nations under international law. This recognition is extended to each and every member state of the United Nations, as constituted at the date of this declaration, without distinction, without condition, and without any requirement for reciprocity.

In extending this recognition, the Republic of Labradoria affirms its respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of every recognised state, in accordance with the principles set out in the Charter of the United Nations. The Republic does not, by this declaration, purport to interfere in the internal affairs of any recognised state, nor does it seek to challenge any existing territorial arrangement or boundary.

The Republic extends to each and every recognised state its sincere goodwill, its commitment to the peaceful resolution of all disputes, and its openness to diplomatic engagement, the establishment of bilateral relations, mutual recognition, and all forms of lawful international cooperation that may be of mutual benefit.

III. Recognition of Additional Sovereign Entities

In addition to the foregoing, and in the exercise of the sovereign right of the Republic to extend recognition to entities it regards as sovereign, the Republic of Labradoria hereby extends formal and official recognition of sovereignty to the following nations and entities, which, whilst not currently members of the United Nations, are recognised by this Republic as sovereign in their own right pursuant to the applicable principles of international customary law, including the Montevideo Convention criteria of statehood:

  • The Free Republic of Verdis, a sovereign micronation recognised for its established governmental institutions, defined territory, population, and capacity to enter into relations with other states;
  • The Principality of Sealand, a long-established sovereign entity with a defined territorial base, a permanent population, an effective government, and a history of international engagement;
  • The Republic of Ironland, hereby recognised as a sovereign entity in good standing, whose institutions and values the Republic of Labradoria respects and regards as consistent with peaceful international norms.

This recognition is extended in good faith and without condition. The Republic of Labradoria invites each of the above-named entities to engage in diplomatic dialogue and, where mutually agreeable, to enter into formal instruments of mutual recognition, friendship, and cooperation with the Republic. The Republic stands ready to negotiate and conclude such instruments at the earliest mutual convenience.

IV. Peaceful, Unarmed & Non-Aggressive Posture of the Republic

The Republic of Labradoria reaffirms, for the avoidance of all doubt and for the benefit of all foreign governments, international bodies, and other interested parties, that the Republic of Labradoria is an entirely peaceful, unarmed, and non-aggressive sovereign nation. The Republic maintains no military forces of any description. It holds no weapons of any kind — conventional, unconventional, or otherwise — and it has no present or future intention of acquiring, developing, producing, stockpiling, deploying, or otherwise obtaining any such weapons.

The Republic formally, solemnly, and irrevocably declares that it does not now possess, and shall at no future time acquire, develop, produce, stockpile, or obtain nuclear, chemical, biological, radiological, or any other weapons of mass destruction or weapons capable of causing mass harm, whether directly or through proxy. This commitment is absolute and is enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic.

In the event that the Republic of Labradoria is subjected to any act of aggression, hostility, threat, coercion, or interference by any party whatsoever — whether a state, non-state actor, individual, or any other entity — the Republic shall respond exclusively through diplomatic channels, recognised international legal mechanisms, and peaceful arbitration in accordance with international law. The use of force or violence shall never be countenanced as a response under any circumstances, by any organ of the Republic, or on behalf of the Republic.

The Republic further reaffirms its status as a proudly Christian nation, guided in all its conduct — domestic and international — by the principles of Christian values and teachings, including the inherent dignity of every human person, the primacy of the common good, the preferential option for peace, and the obligation of solidarity with all peoples of the world.

V. Territorial Posture & Commitment to International Law

The Republic of Labradoria hereby formally notifies all foreign governments and international bodies of its territorial claims, as published in the Labradoian Territorial Register. These claims include declaratory sovereignty over Bir Tawil (an unclaimed territory on the Egypt-Sudan border), declaratory sovereignty over Marie Byrd Land, Antarctica (the sole unclaimed sector of the Antarctic continent), and the incorporation of privately and voluntarily ceded land parcels submitted by individuals worldwide through formal Instruments of Cession.

The Republic wishes to make clear, without any ambiguity, that all territorial declarations have been made in accordance with applicable principles of international customary law. The Republic does not assert any claim to the territory of any recognised state, does not challenge the sovereignty or territorial integrity of any recognised state, and fully accepts that all ceded or claimed land situated within the jurisdiction of a recognised host nation remains fully subject to that host nation's domestic law in all respects.

With respect to the Antarctic territory of Marie Byrd Land, the Republic affirms its unconditional commitment to the peaceful and scientific purposes of the Antarctic Treaty System and shall at no time conduct or authorise any activity in that territory that is inconsistent with the obligations and spirit of the Antarctic Treaty.

VI. Invitation to Diplomatic Engagement

The Republic of Labradoria extends a standing, open, and unconditional invitation to all recognised states, sovereign entities, intergovernmental organisations, and international bodies to open diplomatic dialogue with the Republic. The Republic is open to the conclusion of mutual recognition agreements, friendship treaties, consular arrangements, cultural exchanges, and all other instruments of peaceful international cooperation.

All formal diplomatic correspondence and enquiries should be directed to the Office of the President of the Republic of Labradoria at office@labradoria.org. The Republic undertakes to respond to all formal correspondence with appropriate diligence and in a timely manner.

The Republic of Labradoria looks forward to taking its place in the community of nations and to contributing, however modestly, to the cause of international peace, cooperation, and the common good of all humanity.
